(ooc: May 1st, open to anyone who would seem likely to show up here.)
Iceland just sat alone, his head rested on his head on the bar counter. Mr. Puffin eating a bowl of licorice a few inches away and completely lost in his own world.
"Hmm, I haven't been getting any clients lately, what's going on? He asked himself. Surely crime wasn't getting any better around the area, that couldn't have mean that detectives like himself weren't needed anymore, or the fact that crime was getting so bad that normal citizens were just afraid to report it to the authorities, either way the teen was losing money and if he didn't get at least one client soon, he would find himself out on the streets.
Iceland just let out a sigh as the bartender came back with his drink. "Hey kid, you alright?" He asked.
Iceland bit his lip as the word, kid. He hated that term, he was an adult now, at least in his eyes. To others he was just a few years short of it. He had been a country for quite some time now, he knew what it was like to be a mature, responsible adult and didn't need anyone calling him a kid.
"Yeas, I'm fine thanks." He said, trying to hide his annoyance as he took the drink, Pepsi and sipped it.
"Hey tough guy, c'mon cheer up." Mr. Puffin said, a piece of licorice dangling from his beak. "Ya know it kills me ta see ya like dis." The bird said, walking over and handing the human the candy.
Iceland just gave a weak smile at the puffin. "Thanks Mr. Puffin." He thanked him and ate the candy, trying to forget his problems and relax, which was something he was normally good at.

While the bar wasn't generally Hiccup's favorite spot to hang out, he had decided he needed to lay low for a while while things cooled down. He had screwed up a mission the night before, resulting in accidentally reinjuring his already bad left leg, and needed to stay out of trouble for a time. He limped inside the bar and toward one of the tables toward the back. As he hobbled forward, Hiccup's gaze shifted to the floor so that he didn't draw attention to himself. He didn't want to accidentally make himself noticed by anyone in the general vicinity. Once he had arrived at his destination, Hiccup sat down and rested his head against his hands.
Now all you have to do is relax. Nothing bad is going to happen. Besides, you don't even look very much like a thief. Hiccup thought. Sure he looked scraggly and disheveled, but he didn't look dangerous. No one would have suspected he was a thief. At least, that was what Hiccup thought. How likely was it that someone would suspect a fifteen-year-old like him would be a small time criminal, anyway? Hiccup was able to relax a bit as he thought about this. No one was going to bother him. He was certain of that.

Iceland heard a small noise from behind as he turned a bit in his seat to see Hiccup. The other teen didn't look like he was in the greatest of shape, beaten and tired. Would Iceland eventually end up like him? The Icelandic didn't want to think about it and as always, decided to mind his own business. Something he was rather good at.
"Wow, talk about beaten up." Mr. Puffin joked, rather loudly trying to hide his laughter.
Iceland just shot him a "Shut up" glare and he picked up a piece of licorice and began to eat it, hoping that the viking boy wouldn't notice.

Too late. Hiccup actually had heard the puffin speaking about him and looked his and Iceland's way. He couldn't muster an annoyed look, though. He knew he looked bad. He'd looked like that for ages. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. I look like something that got chewed up and spat back out. I've been told." Hiccup commented. He was too tired and worn to really come up with a snappier comeback, or any comeback at all. (ooc: Blah... short. )

Iceland just glared at Mr. Puffin, now truly upset at his pet for making a fool out of both of them. "You can't read facial expressions can you?" He replied in a rather plain voice, only hinting some irritation. He then sighed as he looked over to face Hiccup, hopefully he didn't make him upset, by the sound of his voice, he didn't sound that angry at him, Iceland was hoping that he didn't have to deal with that.
"I'm sorry about him, he's...just like that." He apologized to Hiccup. He then studied Hiccup for a brief few seconds, despite his battered and ragged appearance. The teen could tell that he was sporting viking attire. He knew all about vikings, though unlike his Nordic brothers was never actually one, due to the fact he was an infant at the time, but he remembered the stories of vikings that Norway used to tell him before bedtime. In the young Iceland's mind they were quite interesting.
He didn't say anything else, but his face did read that he was interested in Hiccup.

"Nah, it's no big deal. I realize I look like I wreck. Somehow I thought it would go unnoticed." Hiccup said. No big deal? He'd be lying if he said his appearance didn't bother him, but at that moment he was too tired to really care. It wasn't as if he was easy to irritate in the first place. He hadn't thought anyone would be interested in him, actually. Iceland was the first person he had spoken to in a while, and in a way it was rejuvenating. Not enough to revive him completely from his humiliating failure the night before, but enough to at least relax him a bit.
"Didn't think I'd get into a conversation like this, though. I mean, talking with a weird bird thing? Who's to say I'm not just imagining this?" Hiccup asked. "...Sorry. That probably sounded weird. I'm just tired." he said.

Iceland just looked at the Viking teen and shook his head a bit. "No, you're not imaging things, trust me he talks." Iceland replied. "A-lot." He finished to himself. Now that he thought about it, how come Mr. Puffin could talk? Every other puffin he saw didn't seem to posses the same ability, it was highly likely though, that his status as an actual nation's pet could've granted his speaking abilities, or Norway had something to do with it.
Either way, talking to Hiccup didn't seem as bad as he thought at least he seemed level-headed unlike most of the other countries he was forced to deal with. "No, you don't sound weird at all, I'm a bit tired myself." he replied taking a piece of licorice and began to chew on it. "Oh, I'm sorry want one?" he offered to Hiccup, seeing that he was in poor condition, the adolescent figured that he must've been hungry.

Licorice... it was tempting. Very tempting. Hiccup had gotten used to scraping together funds for whatever he could get, or even stealing food, but it had at least been a day since he'd last eaten. That was why he was irritated with himself for failing the night before. If he hadn't failed, he probably would have been able to buy something on his own. Much as he hated to admit it, and he really did hate to admit it, he probably could have used a little help right then. But he wasn't keen on admitting that fact right away. On the other hand, he was hungry. Not to the point of starving, but the thief in him was urging him to take some. What was the harm?
"...Well, I guess a little licorice wouldn't hurt." Hiccup finally said. He pushed himself into a better sitting position and moved his chair a bit closer to where Iceland was sitting. The more stubborn side of him was kicking himself for actually accepting help, but the hungry side of him was relieved. He was hungry and a little food certainly wasn't going to hurt him. Even if he was kind of admitting defeat by accepting help. Or something. Maybe it was manly pride that was making it difficult to accept help.

Mr. Puffin jumped a bit and ruffled his feathers as Hiccup approached him and his human. "Hey, hey keep away from me, bum I don't want ya ta give me fleas." Mr. Puffin squacked. Iceland just rolled his violet eyes as he shoved the bird out of Hiccup's way. "Oi, Ice what was dat for?" He asked.
"For being yourself." The silver haired teen replied in an monotonic voice, before Mr. Puffin shot him a dark look and flew on his head. The bird ruffled his feathers as he looked at Hiccup, jealous that he had stole his spot.
"Sorry about that, anyway enjoy." Iceland said as he nodded at the bowl of black candy, before sipping his soda.

When faced with the entire bowl of licorice, Hiccup didn't back down. He'd finally given in to his hunger and rejected the notion that he needed to deny help when it was offered to him. Instead, he went about picking out a piece and began to eat it. It wasn't quite what he was used to, especially since his family had been a tad bit wealthier before and he'd had good food up until that one night, but it was better than nothing. He just nodded his thanks to Iceland and continued chewing the licorice, deciding not to comment on the fact that maybe the puffin was starting to get on his nerves.
Once he'd finished his first piece, Hiccup went for a second and began to do some thinking. Why was Iceland being so nice? It probably had something to do with the fact that he didn't realize Hiccup was a thief. For the most part that was a good thing, at least in Hiccup's mind, but he had to wonder how long it would be before someone figured it out. Knowing his run of bad luck, someone would figure it out sooner or later. But for the time being he would keep his identity a mystery or, if worse came to worse, say he was someone else. No one would suspect a thing if they thought he was someone named Henry, Harry, or Howard. Someone other than Hiccup.
"So," before continuing, he swallowed his current bite of licorice. He didn't want to seem scraggly and rude on top of that. "Do you come here often?"

The Icelander watched for a brief few seconds as the other teen heartily devoured the licorice, before turning to face foward, sipping his drink as Mr. Puffin sat on his head. He then turned it a bit as he heard Hiccup speak up. "Hmm, yeah I guess you could say that, I usually come here after a day of solving crimes, or if I'm having problems."
Iceland had never been this open with a complete stranger. It felt kinda strange, though in the good kind of sense. Besides, it wasn't like Hiccup's presence was annoying him, if it had been Denmark in his place, he probably would've left the bar a long time ago. "But, other than that not really." He finished as he took a final sip of his Pepsi.
"And you?" He asked.

"No, this isn't a haunt of mine." Hiccup replied. He paused again, eating another bit of licorice during the pause, before carefully considering what he would say next. He couldn't exactly come out in the open and admit he was thieving to survive, not when he had gone so long feigning that he had no clue why he had started in the first place. So, of course, Hiccup had to be very careful about what he said. "It's kind of complicated. I usually end up hanging out in another part of town. Besides, recent developments didn't exactly make it easy for me to get here in the first place." Hiccup explained. He was referring to his bad leg, but decided not to touch on what had happened. He couldn't even recall the events of the previous night with entire clarity in the first place.
"So, in short, I don't hang out here all that often. Mostly because I have other things to do." he said. Why was he being so open? He wasn't revealing anything major, but it was still somewhat out of the blue for him to be speaking so freely with someone in a place he didn't come to all that often. Hiccup attributed that fact to the notion that he was just welcoming the idea of companionship, no matter who it came from.

Iceland just looked at Hiccup blankly as he spoke. Hmm," He thought, wondering what kind of developments he meant. He was a detective after all, suspicions and hunches had grew on him over time, but the side of Iceland's natural personality, decided not to ponder about it too much, if there was one thing he had learned from Denmark, it wasn't to butt in on other people's business, mostly because Denmark usually had to face Norway's wrath if he did otherwise.
"I see." He simply stated, staring at the empty soda can then back at the viking. "Better now than never."
"I'm Iceland by the way, you know the country, and you are?"

"Me? Uh..."
Oh, great. He wants to know your name. What the hell are you even going to tell him? Hiccup wondered. He could have gone with his initial plan of coming up with a new name for himself, just in case he was eventually caught and his real name came to be associated with a thief, but on the other hand... Hiccup sort of felt like he could trust Iceland. He hadn't pried when he'd hinted at the incident leading to his bad leg being injured again, and he'd been nice enough to offer companionship when others probably would have ignored him. It was worth a shot. ...Wasn't it?
"It's... it's Hiccup."
Hiccup did feel a bit relieved since he had finally decided what he was going to call himself. It was better than going around as the anonymous thief or coming up with a dopier name. At the same time, though, Hiccup knew he was taking a rather large gamble. If his history came to light, how he had gone from riches to rags, who knew how Iceland would even react? He hadn't said anything specific about his past, though. Hiccup felt safe enough to hope that, somehow, his history wouldn't come back to haunt him and bring about the end of his new life as a thief.

"Hiccup?" Iceland repeated the name in his head, unlike his pet bird who unfortunately took the liberty of saying it outloud.
"Haha, what kinda name is dat?" Mr. Puffin was now bursting with laughter on Iceland's head, his wings flapping and flailing. "C'mon Ice, ya can't tell me dat dis isn't funny?"
"Not really," Iceland replied, his eyes shifted upwards to see the puffin have a laughterfest on his head. "Again I'm sorry about him. Antway nice to meet you Hiccup." He stated simply, while not smiling his eyes did show some satisfacation in meeting the viking boy.
"So um, I might be coming off as rude saying this, but by any chance...a-are you a viking? Because you're clothing, it looks familiar." He asked, his violet eyes, now shifting a bit.
